South Coast Aboriginal Language Centre Consultation Survey

The Aboriginal Languages Trust is visiting Aboriginal Language Communities on the NSW South Coast to talk about a proposed Aboriginal Language Centre (ALC) or Centres.

The ALC(s) would be funded by the Australian Government’s Indigenous Languages and Arts (ILA) Program.

On behalf of ILA, The Trust will conduct several rounds of Community consultations with NSW South Coast Aboriginal Communities to explore options for a new ALC.

If you have an interest in the Aboriginal Languages of the NSW South Coast, we would love to get your feedback on a proposed ALC(s). Please complete the survey below. The survey should take around 15 minutes to complete.

Before completing the survey, please watch the Trust’s animation below to hear more about ALCs.

ALCs in NSW provide services to NSW Aboriginal Language Communities such as:

  • activities that reclaim and reawaken Aboriginal Language knowledge through archival research and linguistic analysis
  • activities that promote, develop and maintain Aboriginal Language records and data
  • the creation and development of Aboriginal Language learning resources accessible to Aboriginal Communities
  • engaging Aboriginal Communities in Aboriginal Language revitalisation activities
  • delivery of Aboriginal Language education through Language tutoring, classes and workshops in many settings
  • delivery of Aboriginal Language translation services
  • the ongoing employment, training and development of Aboriginal Language workers and educators
  • networking and collaborating across Aboriginal Communities, Nations and Language Groups
  • coordinating long term Community language planning to grow Aboriginal Language use into the future

All ALCs operate differently to meet the discrete local and/or regional needs of their Community.

If you have any questions regarding the proposed ALC or the consultation process, please reach out to [email protected] or:

By completing this survey you consent to the Aboriginal Languages Trust collecting your responses for the purposes of the NSW South Coast Aboriginal Language Centre(s) consultation project.
