We are excited to release our Access To Country for Teaching and Learning research report and animation!

During our consultation with NSW Aboriginal Communities for our Strategic Plan, Communities emphasised the integral connection between Language, Culture and Country, and called for better access to Country to teach Language and Culture, hence research on how Aboriginal Communities access Country for Language teaching and learning was identified as a priority in the Trust’s Research Agenda 2023-2028.

Part of this project has been to develop case studies with six Aboriginal Communities throughout NSW that are accessing Country in different ways for Language learning. These case studies were identified to cover different Language Groups, different aspects of Country (metro, regional and remote) and different ways of accessing Country.

This project found that there are many benefits of teaching Language on Country, but that Aboriginal Communities still experience a number of barriers. This report makes recommendations to government departments and agencies on how to access to Country can be improved to accelerate Language revitalisation activities.
